President Don Hardwick has “invited” Congressman Peter DeFazio to be the keynote speaker of the 75th Annual Oregon Logging Conference.
“I am excited to have invited Oregon’s Senior Representative to be our keynote speaker,” says Hardwick. “Congressman Peter DeFazio has served as Oregon’s Representative from the 4th Congressional District since 1987. During his tenure he has witnessed many changes in the management of Federal lands and the local rural communities whose survival and prosperity depend on those lands.”
“When you talk about “Sustaining the Future” for our industry, one of the primary topics of discussion has to be a predictable and dependable supply of timber coming from our federal forests,” adds Hardwick. “In an effort to help provide this predictability and dependability, Congressman DeFazio, together with his colleagues, has developed a bill that would place approximately 50 percent of the federal “O&C” timberlands in a trust that will be managed to bring timber harvest and revenue to Oregon’s timber dependent communities. I look forward to his insightful comments during the keynote address.”
DeFazio will be a key architect of the highway authorization — a six-year federal highway and transit spending bill — and will work to bring needed infrastructure investment to Oregon to help create jobs and improve long-term economic viability.
