This year, Kim Wienke chose NAMI (The National Alliance for Mental Illness.) Since 1979 the organization has been dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.
Kim works in the field of mental health and provides services to consumers with mental health issues. She sees first hand how effective eduction is to help families and their loved ones learn how mental illness influences a family and the individual who copes with the illness.
“Understanding goes a long way to help support our communities and help them to cope as well. We all likely have experienced a family member(s) or perhaps ourselves that cope with mental illness. Mental illness affects one in four families. It is not as remote as we might assume,” she says.
The 9th annual Dessert for Dreams event will be held at the Vista Ballroom at the Eugene Hilton on Friday, Feb. 24, from 12:30 to 3pm. And, 100 percent of the $25 ticket price will go to the NAMI.
In addition to helping a great organization, you will have a light lunch, desserts, wine and champaign. The mouth-watering desserts will be coming from a variety of bakeries in the Eugene and Springfield, Ore., area.
