On Friday, February 22nd, the Livestock Arena at the Lane County Fairgrounds in Eugene will be transformed into a hands-on experience of activities for high school students interested in pursuing careers in the logging, forestry, and other natural resource industries. More than 800 high students and educators from 35 schools in Oregon and Washington have registered to attend the 2nd Annual Future Forestry Workers Career Day.
Inside the Livestock Arena will by hands-on activities in Forestry, Reforestation, and Mills, Diesel Mechanics, Welding, and Heavy Equipment Operations, and Wildland Firefighting, as well as information and personal interaction with the students from many exhibitors. Current career/employment opportunities will be discussed, and skills needed to pursue those opportunities. A high school logging exhibition will also be featured.
Two sessions are scheduled: 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Oregon Logging Conference Foundation, the educational arm of the Oregon Logging Conference.
This is the 2nd Annual Future Forestry Workers Career Day, with the focus on connecting with and attracting a younger generation workforce into the logging and other natural resource industries.
