Resolution

To the Governor and All of the Citizens of Oregon:

We, the Oregon Logging Conference, respectfully represent and request action as follows:

Whereas, the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds is conceived as a means to restore our native fish populations and their aquatic systems to productive and sustainable levels that will provide substantial environmental, cultural and economic benefits, and

Whereas, the success of the Oregon Plan rests on the efforts and contributions of all Oregonians, be they urban or rural, and

Whereas, the Oregon Plan, based on a strong foundation of protective regulations, transcends regulation and encourages non-regulatory efforts to improve conditions for salmon and water quality, and

Whereas, Oregon loggers, landowners and forest products industry have long been the “forest activists” in this state, dependent on healthy, renewable and sustainable forests, and

Whereas, Oregon landowners have contributed funding annually to implement the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds,

Be It Resolved by the Oregon Logging Conference:

That the National Marine Fisheries Service support the Oregon Plan to protect and conserve salmon and trout populations.

Resolved that copies of this resolution be sent to the Honorable Governor Kitzhaber, the Honorable members of the Oregon House and Senate, and the appropriate Committee Chairman
